Hi, hi, hi. Many year ago when I was an MA student, I sat in on an undergraduate course titled something like “Love and Literature” in which we read, among other things, a number of contemporary romance novels (one of which, I recall, was by Lisa Jewell and, well, it was pretty good). It was a light-bulb moment for me. You could not only study popular fiction at the university, but also have intelligent and interesting conversations about it. Many years later, I’ve decided to return to the romance genre.
Lately, the boom in LGBTQ+ romance novels has fascinated me, but I’ve found it difficult to find meaningful criticism about it, criticism in the basic sense of what’s worth reading, and what isn’t. So, I figured, why not start my own blog? There is a lot of slop out there, but there is some good stuff too. Some really good stuff.
Here we are. The Dispatch from Queer Romancelandia is a space for me to exercise my writing with my largely non-academic thoughts on what I’m reading. I’ll updated it when I feel like it. Welcome welcome welcome.
